GESiDR2iDR3 Preliminary Database ReleaseThis release contains iDR2 and iDR3 recommended parameters and abundances as of January 2015. GESiDR2iDR3 is a preliminary release of the iDR3 observations and results combined with earlier ones from iDR2. It contains the full set of iDR2 and iDR3 analysis results and the spectra from which these results were derived. For the homogenisation breakdown please read this summary. The release is preliminary in that, unlike previous releases, the analysis results are not automatically linked to their parent spectra. Also no table of nightly spectra is present. A release is being made in this incomplete form in order to make the combined iDR2 and iDR3 analysis results available to the Consortium as soon as possible. It will be superseded by a full release including all the links and with a table of nightly spectra within a few weeks. In the meantime we encourage you to try the current release and to please report any problems (e-mail to ges-support@roe.ac.uk) so that they can be addressed in the full release. If you have not already done so, as a GES Co-Investigator you need to obtain a login profile from your Community Contact. Each institution in the Consortium has a Community Contact. See the list of community contacts to identify your local contact. If no community contact is listed for your institution please contact either Clare Worley (ccworley@ast.cam.ac.uk) or Anna Hourihane (aph@ast.cam.ac.uk). If you have login or other technical issues then please e-mail ges-support@roe.ac.uk. The structure of the release, in terms of the tables present and their constituent columns, is the same as the previous iDR2 release. The sizes of the main tables are as follows:
The following sections describe how the iDR2 and iDR3 results have been combined in this release and discuss the consequences of the omitted links. Combination of the iDR2 and iDR3 resultsiDR3 was a frozen analysis, hence the same analysis pipelines and homogenisation procedures were applied to this set as were used for iDR2. However there are overlaps between iDR2 and iDR3, where the same star has been analysed in both. The general rule applied in combining the Node and Working Group iDR2 and iDR3 tables is that iDR3 supersedes iDR2. However, there were specific exceptions:
Details of the omitted linksIn this preliminary release the analysis results are not automatically linked to their parent spectra. The RecommendedAstroAnalysis, AstroAnalysis, Spectrum, Specframe and Target tables are all populated as normal, but the SpectrumGroup table is empty. RecommendedAstroAnalysis and AstroAnalysis cannot be joined to Spectrum using the specID and specGroupId identifiers. Note that specID can be used as usual to join the Spectrum and SpecFrame tables and targetID to join the Spectrum and Target tables. Details in the AstroAnalysis targetID, instrument, gratings and fieldName columns can, in principle, be used to identify source spectra in table Spectrum but caution must be exercised in interpreting the results as in some cases there may be ambiguities. Working Group ReportsConsortium working groups 10 - 15 have prepared reports on the analyses that they performed for iDR2. These reports are available for download as PDF documents:
