GESiDR5 Database Release

For details of known issues and problems with GESiDR5 see the Known Issues page.

GESiDR5 is a full release. All observations from the beginning of the survey until December 2015 are included, which is four years of observations.

This release contains iDR5 recommended parameters, derived recommended products (individual element abundances, chromospheric activity, gamma index, etc.) and recommended radial and rotational velocities (rotational velocities from the GIRAFFE pipeline are not released in the iDR5 recommended products; see Known Issues for further information). It also contains the stacked and nightly spectra derived from observations made for the Gaia-ESO Survey during iDR5 and tables of metadata summarising these spectra.

A new feature in the GES Science Archive for release iDR5 is the ability to cross-match (or join) stars in the archive with corresponding objects in the Gaia DR1 release and some other surveys hosted by WFAU. See the separate notes for details.

GESiDR5 is a release internal to the GES Consortium and only available to GES Co-Investigators. If you are a GES Co-Investigator then in order to access the archive you must obtain a log-in profile from your local GES Community Contact, if you have not already done so. Every institution in the Consortium has a Community Contact. See the list of community contacts to identify your local contact.

If no community contact is listed for your institution please contact either Clare Worley (ccworley@ast.cam.ac.uk) or Anna Hourihane (aph@ast.cam.ac.uk).

If you encounter log-in or other technical problems then please report them by e-mail to ges-support@roe.ac.uk.

The structure of the release, in terms of the tables present and their constituent columns, is the same as the previous release. The sizes of the main tables are as follows:

table No. of rows
Target 82,410
RecommendedAstroAnalysis 82,123
WgRecommendedAstroAnalysis 174,907
AstroAnalysis 1,933,593
Spectrum 148,493
LineList 35,284,497

Working Group Reports

Working Groups 10 - 15 prepared reports on their analyses for iDR5. These reports will be available for download shortly.
