Known Issues with GES Release gesiDR2

This page documents the known issues with GES Release gesiDR2 as of 18 August 2014.

  • The revised iDR2 resolves reported issues with the homogenisation of the Vrads. The updated values mainly adhere to the following policy, which is explained in full in the WG15 report: Where an HR10 VEL is available it is used regardless of which SETUP the parameters are sourced. WG13 Vrads are used following specific cases provided by R.Blomme (WG13 Lead). Otherwise the Vrads are taken to match the source of the parameters where possible with appropriate offsets applied. Caveat: not all exceptions could be accounted for and so discrepancies may still be present. The PI publication policy regarding the use of the Vrads should be followed.

  • Fixed by 2014-08-18 revision. Issue with the recommended radial velocities. An issue with the recommended radial velocities (column Vrad in view RecommendedAstroAnalysis) has been uncovered which affects a subset of Vrads throughout the iDR2 dataset. The data are being corrected and will be updated ASAP (note added Monday 28/7/14).

  • The SpecFrame and Spectrum tables contain only stacked spectra data. The individual nightly spectra and associated data from the INPUTINFO tables of the stacked spectra are not presently included in the iDR2 release and will be added shortly.

  • The Target table is missing some columns from the associated PHOTOM tables of the spectra and will be added later.

  • Some high proper-motion stars exist in the archive with more than one cName due to their being observed at several epochs and hence have multiple entries in the Target table (with multiple targetIDs). For iDR4 a standard list of cNames has been created so that all such stars will be more easily retrieved. Consequently:
    • queries based on a single cName / targetID for these stars will not return all associated spectra and analyses unless all the cName or targetIDs associated with these stars are included in the query (a complete list of cNames for affected stars will appear here shortly).

    • 95 rows in the SpectrumGroup table have default specIDs corresponding to WG10 analyses of 75 spectra that referenced a cName that was inconsistent with the cName in the associated spectrum file. Thus these analyses are not linked to the observed spectra in the Spectrum table and although the fileName entries are listed they are not associated with files on disk, so no download link will be available. Just three cNames are affected in this case:
      • 11325994-3151279
      • 12202074+0318445
      • 15430220-1056042

  • Missing benchmark results in WgRecommendedAstroAnalysis. The results of the joint analysis of the HR10 and HR21 spectra of the benchmarks in WG10 are missing from view WgRecommendedAstroAnalysis. These missing rows will be updated in the next release. However, please note that the results of the WG15 homogenisation, contained in view RecommendedAstroAnalysis, should be used for the benchmarks as for all other stars.

  • Caution advised for radial velocity studies: The WG15 homogenised results, available as view RecommendedAstroAnalysis, includes radial velocities for stars for which homogenised parameters have been derived (column Vrad in RecommendedAstroAnalysis). However, if you are performing a radial velocity study of a sample of stars, please be aware that there may be additional radial velocities available in table Spectrum for stars which do not have derived parameters (and thus do not have an entry in RecommendedAstroAnalysis). Please note that these additional values are pipeline radial velocities that have not been homogenised in the same way as the WG15 velocities. Please consult the PIs about the use of kinematic datasets.

  • UVES spectra from the ESO archive (not observed as part of GES) and benchmark calibration & spectral library spectra are presently unavailable and have no corresponding entries in the SpecFrame and Spectrum tables of the GES database. Consequently:
    • the Target table contains missing entries for some targets that presently only have these unavailable non-GES observations, such as those in the M67 field. As a consequence of this, 1,442 rows in the AstroAnalysis table contain default targetIDs corresponding to these missing entries:
      • 22 rows in RecommendedAstroAnalysis (all from M67)
      • 174 rows in WgRecommendedAstroAnalysis from WG14 (corresponding to 87 pairs of UVES U/L spectra)
      • 89 rows in WgRecommendedAstroAnalysis from WG11 (this is repeated for each of the 13 nodes of WG11, so in total 89*14 = 1,246 AstroAnalysis entries from WG11 have default targetIDs)

    • the SpectrumGroup table has 802 rows with default specIDs corresponding to these missing spectra (as well as thus removing the link to the Spectrum table this also means the fileName entry could not be associated with a file on disk and so, despite the fileName remaining visible, no download link for these spectra are available):
      • 210 rows from WG14 (corresponding to 105 pairs of UVES U/L spectra)
      • 592 rows from WG11 (corresponding to 296 pairs of UVES U/L spectra)

  • The WG13 analyses refer to 33 manyspec spectra files (a subset of the observations of Br81, NGC3293, NGC4815, NGC6705 and Trumpler_14) that are presently unavailable and have no corresponding entries in the SpecFrame and Spectrum tables of the GES database. As a consequence of this, the SpectrumGroup table has 2,343 rows with default specIDs corresponding to these missing spectra (as well as thus removing the link to the Spectrum table this also means the fileName entry could not be associated with a file on disk and so, despite the fileName remaining visible, no download link for these spectra are available).
